| Résumé : | The Catholic Church’s approach to Christian unity has known tremendous change and development since the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965). Whether at the universal or the local levels, the Church has positively embraced the ecumenical dimension of its mission. The promotion of Christian unity, as the Conciliar document, Unitatis Redintegratio states, “involves the whole Church, faithful and clergy alike. It extends to everyone, according to the talent of each, whether it be exercised in daily Christian living or in theological and historical studies.”1 In Madagascar, ecumenism has been known mainly through the leaders of mainstream churches, which compose the Ecumenical Council of Christian Churches or Fiombonan’ny Fiangonana Kristiana eto Madagasikara (FFKM). For the past thirty years of its existence, this institution has been involved in aspects of the life of the country, particularly in political mediation. However, the political crisis of 2009 left many questions in the mind of Christians and non-Christians, who were affected not only by the crisis, but also by the fiasco of the mediation. One of the questions concerns the relevance of ecumenical dialogue or the role of FFKM in the Malagasy society today. |
